Consolazione House

Living

In the heart of the historic village of Castiglion Fiorentino, Consolazione House takes shape from the transformation of an apartment with layered domestic memory — the classic "grandmother's house" — into a contemporary space designed for a young couple's life. The project works through subtraction and continuity: rooms expand, natural light becomes a design material, while existing elements dialogue with new geometries and essential lines. The long corridor, punctuated by arches and wooden and glass doors from the 1950s and '60s, guides the gaze towards the valley. Here, the new barrel-vaulted false ceiling, a discreet guardian of indirect light, amplifies perspective and horizontality, transforming a simple passage into an enveloping perceptual experience. The heart of the home is the living area, where an organic, circular form unites kitchen and living in a single fluid gesture. The space becomes a crossroads between contemporary design and domestic dimension, between functionality and identity. Delicate finishes and natural materials — lime, resin, parquet and onyx-effect porcelain — define a neutral, luminous shell, a silent box capable of welcoming everyday life without overwhelming it. Every opening becomes a frame on the landscape, reinforcing the dialogue between interior and exterior and restoring new depth to the apartment. Consolazione House does not erase memory; it re-reads it. It transforms existing stratification into a contemporary, luminous and immersive domestic experience, where past and present find a measured balance.
